Arenīt gateway pages a form of Spam?
There is a blurred limit between accepted information pages and abusive gateway pages. Information pages provide some useful info to the user, and are not generated in abusive numbers. Gateway pages are abundant, have little original content, point always to the same target domain, are mostly orphan (no incoming links), reside mostly in the same directory, and sometimes produce forced redirection.
Our software is so versatile and feature-rich that can make any kind of pages, according to the risk that the user is willing to take, and to the available content.
We advise to include a lot of content and relevant keywords, to spread pages across several domains or subdomains, to link to different target pages, and not to exceed a reasonable page number limit. This way, the pages can be called informational and there is no SE abuse. See here for SE opinions about this issue.
Why are there so many features in GGG?
We wanted to
include as many configurable features as we could, in order to do smart
pages that would not look like machine-made. At least, for the untrained
eye. We have more than 48 of those features now, and we plan to keep
increasing the number. Most of those features are enabled in the Free
version, but you need the Full version to get them all.
The software can make each set of gateway pages completely different from each other, preventing them from carrying a "signature" or fixed, detectable pattern. For this purpose we need many features. They can be a little confusing, but they are really necessary to fully customize pages. If you do not want to get too deep into this, just use the default settings.
Why so few webmasters use gateway pages?
Who is going to win the battle: the SE antispam squad or the gateway generators?
We are. For one reason: there is no method to detect a pattern, other than human analysis. Google or Altavista do not have thousands of mathematicians needed to spot the gateway page sets constructed by an intelligent software such as GGG. They can perform simple operations, like checksums in pages in the same domain, to detect obvious duplication of content. But unless we leave a signature in the pages, such as "This was generated by GGG", no one can detect our gateways. And if they invest a lot of effort in identifying our pattern, we can change it very easily the following week by means of our ggg.dat configuration file.
Why the SEO experts are against gateway pages?
Human SEO charge thousands for something that GGG makes for a negligible sum. Artists always defend their hand-made beauties against industrialized similar products, even when industry gets better quality.
Note that GGG makes complex pages that cannot be labeled as gateway pages. Even if you want to call them that, because they are not individually hand crafted, there is no reason for alarm.
Although SEOs warn about "being banned" in Google, they privately complain about the lack of response to their spam denounces. (http://www.seochat.com).
The fact is Google stopped relying on spam reports, because it is impossible for them to respond to individual complaints about the multi-billion pages in their index (same citation). Instead, they try to build anti-gateway filters in their algorithm. This is a slow process and we can keep ahead of it.
How many keywords are necessary?
The more, the better. This product follows the shotgun principle of site promotion, according to which many pages optimized for as many keywords as possible, will yield the best results. Up to 450 keywords work OK now; we intend to release a version that supports up to 2000 keywords/subkeywords by the end of August 2003.
We recommend to generate and upload several small projects instead of a single large one.
How do I make up 300 keywords?
Overture has a useful free tool. Our Keyword Thief product will borrow keywords from competitorsīs pages.
When the site is alive and receives visits, a good statistics package can reveal the keywords that people use to find our site on the search engines. It is good to reinforce their presence in the site.
Which keywords are better?
Think of as many
ways to look for your information as possible. Ask your friends how
would they ask a Search Engine for that info. Use synonyms, typos,
plurals, singulars, foreign language or slang. Use a large number of
keyword phrases in your gateway pages.
You will be surprised to find the many unusual methods that people use to search. Some will pose a question, as if the SE was a human. Others will mix individual keywords in a senseless phrase. Few people will use the same logic as you, the keyword selector. Only a "shotgun" campaign will cover most possibilities. This is the reason why you need GGG.
How to reinforce important keywords among the rest?
Include a lot of subkeywords under it. Many generated pages will link to the page optimized for the important keyword, bringing visits and increasing its PageRank.
What happens if I am not satisfied with the options I chose?
You can repeat the generation process until you are satisfied with the amount, names and features of the pages.
Variation in your gateway pages is a positive feature: Altavista is already rewarding pages that are frequently updated, and Google might follow this trend.
How many Random pages are desirable?
This depends on your strategy an resources. We mention this subject in Step 5 of the Help file. GGG helps you produce many more gateway pages that any other product, without risk of SE abuse.
We advice to start with few pages, say 100, and keep generating new projects every 7-14 days. The variation is good for rankings. The different projects let you try different strategies. Use different folders to avoid mix ups. Remember to upload your .mdb and .dat files to your server at the specific folder, in order to have a record of which settings were used in each campaign
Can I use GGG to promote more than one site?
The Freeware version lets you run 5 projects. The Full version has no limits, plus many more advantages and powerful features.
Does GGG work in lenguages other than English?
Yes. Content boxes can use Spanish, German and French special characters. However, please note that generated pages usually have keywords in their names, and file names can only use English characters. Thus, we included a filter that converts some foreign characters to their English equivalents for use in file and directory names: ņ to n, á to a, é to e and so on.
The feature that duplicates content boxes replacing words by its approximate synonyms ("synonymizing") uses English common words, so it wonīt work in other languages. You can edit those words from the .dat file if you want.
Other languages will be launched upon demand.
Is it better to locate the gateway pages in the promoted domain, or should I get a special, extra one?
Both ways are Ok. If you will be pushing GGG to its limits, generating many extra pages over your number of keywords and content boxes, you risk your domain being penalized. In this case is better to locate your gateways in a non-critical domain. In most cases a dedicated canonical domain or subdomain (http://canonical.domain.com) or subdirectory (http://domain.com/gateways) will suffice.
Why the freeware version is so functional? Is there a real benefit in buying the Full version?
At this point we are needing a lot of pages in the web linking to our site, in order to build PageRank for our websites. Later on we plan to exclude some features from the free versions.
The Full version is a product for any serious webmaster or site owner, and its many benefits can be easily appreciated. Check the differences between the Freeware and Full versions in here. The Full version is priced so low because there many more features that we plan incorporate in the near future. Then, price will be most likely doubled or tripled.
Being GGG a little difficult to learn because of many features, isnīt it better to write gateway pages by hand?
Doing Google-optimized pages by hand is very demanding work. Say you are making 25 pages, one optimized for one keyword phrase, all of them properly interlinked, located in 3-4 different domains, with mention to other keywords for proper theme building, with properly tagged images, with different text, optimal keyword frequency and prominence, proper page length and a many other critical variables... we are talking of 3-4 days work by a trained web designer... And try to update those pages each time you add a keyword or two...
After you try, please check our software... GGG does all this by itself. And I am mentioning only 9 features, out of 40 that the software provides... Besides, doing some mixing of keywords and text, GGG can generate 100 o 200 extra pages in a few seconds. Google and Altavista will consider those pages equal to the hand-made ones.
We often run projects with 100 keywords or more. That means at least 100 pages. It will take several days to complete them by hand. And do not even think of making changes afterwards. With GGG you can repeat the page generation process in five minutes.
Why do I need to upload so many real pages? Can I generate them on the fly, by means of an online database?
Some SEOs generate pages dynamically, to show non-existent pages to the SE spiders. If the SE discovers this trick they can penalyze the site.
Most experts agree on the fact that dynamic websites are not so well indexed as static ones. Use GGG to convert a dynamic into a conventional, .htm file site.
My generated web pages are senseless, full of repetitive text.
The reason for the first problem is that your supplied content boxes are poor, either in total words or in keywords. As a result, the program tries to fill the gap generating repetitive, non-smart text. Make content boxes at least 300 words long, and there will be little repetitive, boilerplate text.
It is best to repeat each keyword 4-5 times in one content box, using a meaningful context. If you do not do it, the program will, probably with little English sense.
The Content Critic tool in Step 3 is designed to help with this task. The post-generation screens also help you verify the keyword density and length of all pages.
The best solution for generating content is our new product, foundfirst.com/sy
My generated web pages are full of links
The reason for the excess of links is probably a poor keyword structure. Try to use fewer keywords and several more related subkeywords for each one. There will be less links, but more relevant.
Example: If you use 100 keywords and no subkeywords, you will have 100 links per page, total 10,000. If you use 10 keywords with 10 subkeywords each, you will have 1,100 total links.
Also, there is a feature in Step 5.1 that disables Second Level Pages Interlinking.
How do add your own images to the program?
You can replace the new ones for the ones that reside in the Images directory. Names are not important.
My pages are ready. Now what?
Upload them to your server/servers. We recommend a link integrity check-up, using Xenu's Link Sleuth or Net Mechanic. That can spot any file that was not uploaded right. Then, link to the sitemap.htm file from the index.htm file.
Finally, submit the index.htm to the search engines, as listed here.
Look for your own web site in a major search engine once in a while, click and stay there for a few minutes. It will boost your ranking. Use different Internet service providers if you want to repeat this strategy several times.
What happens if I must re-generate a project?
If your project has been online for a while chances are it was spidered and indexed by Google, Altavista or others. If you erase your pages you will loose valuable visits.
If you happened to erase an indexed project, then you can re-generate the project taking care no to loose many filenames. However, filenames are lost if you erase keywords or subkeywords, or if you diminish the number of random pages.
After some time, check the Error log from your server, to see if some unexistent page has been requested. Then, you can upload any new page and rename it to take the place of the old one.
More cumbersome is to look in Google for your main keywords and check that the pages are still there. Use the Advanced Search option in Google to list pages within your domain, using your main keywords.
How can I make sure that my project was generated OK?
Examine the pages before uploading them. Be careful with pages that redirect you to a target, do not let them do it. Change the pages at wish and regenerate the project until you like them.
We use a free link checker named Xenu to see if the pages were uploaded correctly. Most broken links are caused by uploading errors.
I need to make global changes in my pages before uploading
We recommend a free global Find and Replace utility from Silver Age Soft., called Handy Find and Replace.
I am having trouble with...
Please check our release notes to see if your trouble was recently solved by a new release, or if it is scheduled to be solved in a next version (known bugs). If your trouble is not mentioned, please write us.
How did this project got started?
After developing several sites we came up with lots of text, in the form of e-books and data-base managed stories. Because of limitations of the search engines at that time, we could not get them indexed. As you know, text in dynamic sites (usually data-base driven) can not be indexed as easily as plain .htm pages.
We tried to use the existing gateway page generators, but none of them had enough features, and the pages looked very poor and repetitive. Thus, we decided to make our own generator, able to convert complex text it in any number of optimized pages.
The software took more time and effort than expected, but the results were very good in terms of SE positioning. Thus, we decided to convert our tool in a commercial product.
Why did you change the name of the product, from Goggle Gateway Generator to Great Gateway Generator?
Even when Goggle was chosen as a word different from Google, their lawyers did not like the idea and sent us a nice threatening note requesting a name, logo and trademark change... We did not want to loose our algo-cracking time in a petty name dispute and we accepted.
What is next for the GGG group?
We are always researching the SE ever-changing ranking rules to avoid obsolescence. When we detect a feature that helps (or damages) ranking, we update the default GGG settings and features and publish the tip in our website. This way, users can have a dynamical, updated tool and easily follow the trend in this difficult SEO science.
We are soon releasing AlgoCracker, a software that can spider the SE results to analyze those features that make sites rank at the top, or at the bottom. Something like Axandraīs IBP, but oriented to compare well-placed vs. bad-placed websites.
We also are improving the automatic text generating feature of GGG. We want to produce keyword-relevant text that looks human-written. For this purpose, we created a new product called Synonymizer.
Another product in our line is www.KeywordThief.com.ar , which was originally included in GGG and now is a stand-alone product. It extracts keywords from the best-placed competitor pages.
Our solution for search engine submissions is called SelectiveSubmitter.com This smart submission system is an interactive SE database with different planning and tracking tools.
Check www.Foundfirst.com for an update on products and services.
*: Signature is a phrase always present in generated pages. It allows us (and SE) to detect them and measure their effectiveness.
